1st Chemo Treatment Is In The Books
I did it. I survived my first treatment!
On Monday I had a PICC line put into my arm. That is a special tube that goes from my arm, through my vein to my heart. They will use that to insert the chemo and other medications. That was a hard thing for me because I don't like needles and such. The nurse who was there did a great job of helping me to relax once my body started going into shock. She was counting how long my breaths were. We started at 4 second breaths and I was able to slow them down to 7 seconds. Focusing on breathing help me calm down.
On Tuesday I showed up at the hospital at 9AM. I had a few meetings with doctors and nurses to explain things to me. They needed me to know what was going to happen and when to take the medications I had.
I think I got to the chemo room around 10:30. They have different "pods" where 2 nurses will help up to 8 people. They hooked me up and started dripping medication into my body. I read the Bible for a while, listened to music, napped, and finished the book The Doritos Effect. It was pretty uneventful. The medications were all finished around 4:45. That was a long time!
That night I felt really sick, took a nausea pill and went to bed. The next day I felt drained and sick. I think I ate too much for my stomach to handle. (TMI?) Just before bed a nice fellow named Justin came to change the dressing on my PICC.
Today I feel weak, tired, but not as sick. I haven't done a lot of work. I feel like there is going to be an avalanche of messages to read and respond too. Perhaps after a nap I'll get on that.
Thanks for reading! I am so grateful to you all.

ReplyDeleteI napped twice today. I took a nap, got up, had a drink and napped on the couch. It's a good thing that sleep helps me recover.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Lee, since the coronavirus is happening, are your treatments still all happening? I hope you feel better and less tired soon, I miss you and I really hope you feel better soon.

DeleteMy treatments are still happening. I had the first one this past week and I'm supposed to go in again April 15th. The hospital was very empty when I was there. They are not taking in new patients unless it is an emergency so that they should have enough staff and room for Corona patients. We'll have to see what happens though. God is still in control.
